Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kent.) came to Waukee Friday to hold forth at a dinner hosted by the right-wing Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition about the role of his father, Ron Paul, in the Republican Party.
Rand Paul also weighed in on Barack Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage, poking fun at the president’s “evolving” position ruse. “Call me cynical, but I didn’t think his views on marriage could get any gayer,” Paul said to laughter. Paul, like his father, opposes same-sex marriage, although both men’s views echo Obama’s hands-off states’ rights stance.
Here’s a video of Paul’s joke, courtesy of BuzzFeed:
Earlier on Friday, Paul spoke in Des Moines at an event sponsored by the conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, which was founded with the support of the fossil fuel magnate Koch brothers, who coordinate a network of wealthy conservative financiers.
