This is starting to get a little ridiculous. Thanks again to desmoinesdem at Bleeding Heartland:
Which Iowa candidate helped Ralph Nader elect George Bush…
THAT’S RIGHT.
Ed Fallon helped Ralph Nader elect George Bush…When Ralph Nader said there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush, Ed Fallon believed him. In 2000, Fallon endorsed and actively campaigned for Ralph Nader, helping elect George Bush.
Nader got Bush elected.
Unfortunately we found out how wrong Nader and Fallon were.
-A trillion dollar war
-A collapsing economy
-A disappearing middle class
-Huge tax cuts for the wealthyWe can’t trust Fallon’s judgement. [sic]
No[w] Fallon is back, calling himself a “real” Democrat. But how can we trust his judgement [sic] and commitment to our values? Haven’t we had enough of Ed Fallon’s phony politics?Enough phony politics.
Say NO to ED FALLON.…
Ralph Nader said there’s NO difference between Al Gore and George Bush.
One Candidate for Congress in Iowa actually believed him.
“Unfortunately we found out how wrong Nader and Fallon were” because Gore would have avoided a “trillion dollar war”, a “collapsing economy”, a “disappearing middle class”, and “[h]uge tax cuts for the wealthy”? Maybe I’m missing something, but I can’t recall Nader or Fallon ever endorsing any of these policies. As with the first mailer, Leonard Boswell is equating support for a peacenik in a state Gore won to war in Iraq.
And if “we found out how wrong Nader and Fallon were,” what then of Boswell’s failure to vote against the war?
I wonder if Boswell realizes the irony in his rhetoric. “When Ralph Nader said there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush, Ed Fallon believed him,” states his mailer. But let’s set the record straight here. After Fallon committed the cardinal sin of working for Nader, he spoke out against the Iraq war since before its tragic beginning while Boswell, by his own admission, was “one of those that believed in the commander in chief when he said, yes, there are weapons of mass destruction that [are] coming down on Americans.”
That’s not to suggest I’m surprised by Boswell’s negative campaigning, but this is really beyond the pale. The Boz is by no means one of the worst representatives in Washington, but he needs to realize that it’s perfectly legitimate for a primary challenger to question his past support for some of the very policies he’s now trying to abstractly tie Fallon to.
