Start a War

There’s a picture on the mantle
Names carved in the shiny wall
Bones in the pasture skulls in the riverbed
And there’s a peat fire smoldering
Slow and steady underground
Spontaneous combustion no one really knows for sure

Natural selection atavistic kind of thing
Force of nature like the scream of the wind
Mother of invention original sin
No peace dividend

There’s rumors from the rumor mill
White lies shades of gray
Sweet black seduction I feel so reassured
And there’s a prayer on the lips
And the word’s out on Division Street
A song in my heart but it’s the heart of darkness

So what do you stand for who do you love
Who would you die for
Or risk it all to stand in front of
Who will you lie for where is the line
Look me in the eye

There’s a nasty woman nasty dog
BMOC grabs it all
And to hell with anybody in his way
And there’s a thief in my dresser drawer
I know exactly who he is
I know exactly where he sleeps
I am plotting my revenge

But vengeance is never free
What will be the cost
And now unintended consequences
What more will be lost
And now too late to start all over
To soon too rise above
The question remains

Do you really want to start a war
There’s a justification
And I believe it’s human nature but
Do you really want to start a war
Opens up so easy but so hard to close that door

Do you really want to fight a war
It’s a war of attrition
And I am sure it is my nature but
Do you really want to fight a war
We opened up the door
Get ready for the chain reaction
