Since our last issue was published, we have undergone a few developments that we want to bring to the attention of our readers. The first is our establishment of non-profit status for the Ames Progressive. The directors of this non-profit organization will never earn any profits from our activities and 100 percent of the funding we earn through donations, grants, and advertising will be invested back into the organization to expand our existing projects and to engage in new ones.
We have also started renting an office at 118 Hayward Avenue Suite 3 (in the same building as The Scallion and The Ark). We are using the office for our daily business and as a workspace for the newsletter but The Ames Progressive Office is also a venue for local artists. Every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. we host local music shows and every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. we host an open mic. There is additional programming through the week, including workshops, films and yoga classes. Check the website for postings of events at the Office.
And while you’re there, check out the wealth of new material on the website. You can see archives of all our previous issues, read the new blogs, post comments, discuss upcoming events, and contact us. We are committed to the magazine, the website, and the office as resources for cultural activities in the Ames community. If you are a painter, a calligrapher, or a photographer, you can exhibit your work on our walls. If you are a musician, you can play your music on our stage. If you are a member of a group or a club, you can hold meetings at our office. If you are a writer, you can publish your work in the magazine or on the website. The Ames Progressive is a public enterprise: use it as you see fit.
